Coronation Street actor James Cartwright has spoken candidly about a devastating personal loss he has recently endured.
James arrived on the ITV soap last year in the role of Theo Silverton, the fresh romantic prospect for Todd Grimshaw (Gareth Pierce) – with chemistry between them evident from the start.
Yet before long, Theo’s darker nature emerged as he began manipulating and abusing Todd over several months, attempting to dominate every facet of his existence.
The situation intensified this month when sinister Theo abandoned Todd’s closest friend and former partner, Billy Mayhew (Daniel Brocklebank), leaving him for dead following a multi-vehicle collision during the Corriedale episode.

In Tuesday’s instalment (January 27), consumed by remorse and distress, Theo confessed to Billy’s coffin about his profound regret over abandoning him, reports the Daily Star.
Yet he remained oblivious to Carl Webster (Jonathan Howard) eavesdropping from the adjoining room until the sound of a door slamming caught his attention. An alarmed Theo rushed outside to identify the listener but came up empty-handed.

Whilst securing a part on Corrie last year marked a professional triumph for James, the actor admits 2025 proved to be a “mixed old year”. He suffered profound heartache following the deaths of both his dogs and also a relative.
“It was very sad. Grief is the price we pay for love. You spend so much time together, the purity and uncomplicated love of a dog is irreplaceable,” he recently shared with the Mirror. James continued: “So, while work has been incredible, doing this part, it’s also at times been a mixed old year.

“Then again, life is a magical adventure isn’t it? You can have the most beautiful sunsets, but every so often, you also need to carve yourself out of a dense bush with a teaspoon.”
James spoke candidly last year about losing three cherished family members, and revealed how he was grappling with bereavement during the festive season. He explained: “Very sadly, this year, we’ve lost both our dogs,” as Metro reports.
James added: “And last year we lost my grandad, who was my best friend, just before Christmas. The house will feel very empty, so to combat that, we’re going out for Christmas dinner for the first time ever.”
