Coronation Street stars Aaron McCusker and Pauline McGlynn have thrilled soap fans as they posed for a photo together away from the cobbles. Northern Irish actor Aaron shared an adorable picture with his on-screen mum to celebrate St Patrick’s Day on Tuesday.
The two TV stars made their debut in Weatherfield in October last year as the new Driscoll family. Aaron plays former rugby player and new landlord of the Rovers Return, Ben Driscoll. Ben arrived as the boyfriend of Eva Price (Catherine Tyldesley) and brought with him his interfering mum Maggie (Pauline McGlynn).
The Driscolls have slotted seamlessly into life in Weatherfield. The family are currently part of one of the soap’s major storylines, involving Will Driscoll (Lucas Hodgson-Wale) and his personal trainer Megan (Beth Nixon).
Megan has been arrested following a a dark grooming storyline which has taken place on the soap in recent months. Viewers have described the storyline as a difficult watch, with fans hoping to see the back of Megan anytime soon.
Thankfully, the Driscoll clan have a slightly less dramatic life away from the cobbles as mum and son Ben and Maggie were spotted enjoying a pint of Guinness on St Patrick’s Day.
Aaron posted a photo with his on-screen mum on Tuesday as they raised a pint to the camera.
Catherine Tyldesley commented and said: “My faves” with a red heart emojis.
Another said: “Cheers to you both. Happy St Patrick’s Day.”
A third wrote: “Happy St Patrick’s Day We love your characters in Corrie.”
Before he made his cobbles debut, Aaron was best known for his portrayal of Jamie Maguire in Channel 4’s television series Shameless and Jim Hutton, Freddie Mercury’s boyfriend, in the 2018 film Bohemian Rhapsody.
Aaron was delighted when he found out he would be working with Irish actress Pauline McGlynn.. The 63-year-old Irish actress is best known for her roles as Mrs Doyle in the Channel 4 sitcom Father Ted and as Libby Croker in the Channel 4 comedy drama Shameless.
When Aaron found out Pauline would be playing his mum, he was “over the moon”. After joining the soap last year, he told the ECHO and other press: “Even though me and Pauline were in Shameless together, I never did anything with Pauline.”
He added: “I left her a message and she phoned my straight away and we just chatted and chatted and chatted for a couple of hours. I adore her.”
